So it's been close to a month and i've got a lot of updating to do of the events during that time :). So i'll try to make it short at sweet begining with the arrival...We (Alex, Chris, Lesley and I) flew from Kansas City to Chicago, Chicago - Frankfurt, Frankfurt - Prague. And that day was LOONNNGG!! Our flight in Chicago got delayed, therefore we missed our Frankfurt to Prague flight and had to wait almost 5hrs on no hrs of sleep, so it was interesting. In Frankfurt Lesley and I got separated from the boys and they (the boys) lost their flight and had to wait five hrs more! Once Lesley and I got to Prague, our Czech buddies were there waiting for us. THANK GOD! Because without them we would have been lost! They took us by our dorm, helped us get everything settled and we headed back out to the city of Prague for some food and a towel, that's all we wanted, food, shower, bed! lol
So, the first week was crazy. We met all of our roomates. I have six total. We live in the dorms that are set up as mini-flats. Pretty much a kitchen with a bathroom and three bedrooms, two for two people and one for three. So, my roomates are: Laura and Kate (from England), Mac and Laura (from KSU - architecture students) and Lesley, myself, and Marlo (Greek girl). During that first week we had many different events because it was orientation week. We had meetings about our classes and about the city and the country and the language, we also got to go to different towns and had tours (the pics are @ http://lauractorres.shutterfly.com). So the first week went by and the second one arrived with classes. Then i didn't really know what i was going to take, but now i finally do. I'll be taking: Thermo I, Electronic Materials, Czech Culture, and Small Business. So a little about the way the classes work here. To put it in a nice way, IT SUCKS! Or atleast i dont' really like it much. They dont' have such a thing as graded homework, so most or all of your grade comes from the FINAL. And i just don't think that's EVER a good idea! But oh well, i have to live with it!
So the thrid week went by and i got a little more arranged with classes and the way things are around here. I've really got the whole metro and tram system down, since it's my only way of transportation around the city! Lesley and I have taken a couple of adventures around Prague, like our mini shopping spree at Ikea..lol. We didnt' really think about the fact that everything we buy has to be carried all the way home since we don't have our own cars!! So we had a good workout that day.
During the third weekend, 3.10-3.12. We went on a ski trip!! (those pics should be up soon!) and it was super cool! I really hadn't seen so much snow before, during those days that we were there it barely stopped snowing (ohh by the way, i'm SSOO READY FOR WARM WEATHER). I tried to teach Lesley how to ski ontthe first day, but she kinda twisted her leg or knee or something and she had to stop, so i skied with the rest of the group for the remaining time and it was fun, fast, exciting, and SUPER cold!
Well, there are many little stories to share, so i'll make sure to keep this blog going and hopefully i can keep everybody updated since i'm kinda far from home!
